Donovan Reynolds

Donovan Reynolds is a blogger, British Based Social worker and Secular Humanist of Caribbean decent. He is an Independent Writer and Human Rights Campaigner with an interest in black secularism, human Rights and international development issues. He de-converted from Christianity in 1999 and has since done a series of published writings criticizing the role of the religious right in British and Caribbean political life.

He believes that there is currently a second wave of Secularism taking place in Western Civilization triggered by The God Delusion a book written in 2006 by English biologist Richard Dawkins, professorial fellow of New College, Oxford, and former holder of the Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford. He locates the conveyor belt of a black/British and Caribbean Secularism from the early Nineteen hundred to present .Running the gamut of Pan-Africans and Caribbean writers such as C.L.R, James, George Padmore, Walter Rodney, John Maxwell, Mark Wignall and himself. He harbours frustration that black British and Caribbean dialectic, political, social, cultural and religious space are bombarded by a continuous bias and distortion of the truth by the religious right and the black evangelical movement.

Donovan Reynolds holds the belief that black people are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or god. Historically religious text has presented a negative social representation of black people and was used during slavery in the West Indies by colonial masters to present black humans as being inferior to our white colonial masters and as a means of reinforcing and extracting enforced unpaid labour. Kingston Mouth website seeks to promote a fresh new understanding of Black Secularism. It embraces the humanist life stance emphasizes the unique responsibility facing humanity and the ethical consequences of human decisions. Fundamental to the concept of secular humanism is the strongly held viewpoint that ideology—be it in religious or political life—must be thoroughly examined by each individual and not simply accepted or rejected on faith. Along with this is an essential role for human secular humanism to continually adapt in search for truth and the means and connecting it to our history and culture. Primarily: by embracing independent thinking and the promotion of science new technology along with environmental awareness- as the main driver of progressive change within the black community. Secondly to deconstruct religious ideas peddled by rapture hungry and unscrupulous religious ideology peddled by the black evangelical movement and the religious right.

The objective of Kingston mouth website is to continue to give expression to and focus the spotlight on Human Rights and International Development issues. In addition, to continue to provide an alternative view of political and social lives though the lens of  atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers. This website is commitment to promoting the use of critical reason, factual evidence and scientific method of inquiry in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions. To promote the critical understanding that dogma, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted by faith. Finally: to encourage a conviction that with reason, an open exchange of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children in the black community that is culturally relevant to us.
